If you’ve been to the South, especially Florida, then chances are you’ve experienced these nasty little bugs. The constant biting and constant itching can ruin any weekend camping trip. While I could sit here and write a long, drawn-out article suggesting a bunch of different products and methods to battle them, there is really only one product that needs to be suggested.
- Provides effective protection against gnats, mosquitoes, deer ticks, no-seeums, sand flies, and biting midges
- Repels mosquitoes that may transmit West Nile Virus
- Repels deer ticks that may transmit Lyme Disease
- Dermatologist tested
- SPF 30
I know I know… you were expecting some product with 110% DEET that kills all bugs within a 5 mile radius. Well, I’m not going to tell you that DEET products don’t work, but let’s face it, DEET is not a nice chemical. It has a bad smell and a lot of studies show it isn’t very healthy for you to use regularly. Have you ever read all of the instructions and warnings on those bottles?
In addition to repelling all of those nasty bugs you experience so frequently, it will also protect you from the sun with it being SPF 30. As the name implies, your skin will feel nice after applying it as well.
Does it really work?
There have been many studies on the effectiveness of DEET against mosquitos, no-seeums and other bugs. But what about Skin So Soft? Well yes actually. There are a few studies comparing them directly against each other. While not quite as effective as “Off Deep Woods” with 40% DEET. Studies show that it is 85% as effective. For most places you visit, you should have no issues just using Skin So Soft. If you are nervous, just carry a bottle of Off for those just in case scenarios.
